N.B. These demos are of an earlier version of the app. The current version is more accurate using a significantly enhanced spectral analysis algorithm. Otherwise, the functionality is the same.

Pitch to Note + Chord detects one or more musical pitches that are displayed as notes on a standard musical staff. Built-in music understanding algorithms automatically determine the correct key, adding sharps or flats as appropriate for that key. Pitch to Note + Chord recognizes major, minor, diminished, augmented, sustained, and seventh chords.

Using either the iPhone's built in or external microphone, Pitch to Note + Chord works for the human voice, conventional (acoustic) instruments as well as electronic music synthesizers. It performs best on isolated sounds, without percussion.

Three control buttons are provided:

  • Input Range - Three preset ranges can be selected: C2-C5, C3-C6, and C4-C7 (left button).
  • Response - The middle button chooses between a faster response time with some loss of accuracy for lower notes, or a slower response but with better resolution of low notes.
  • Strength - The right button chooses between displaying strong notes only (top), weaker, or weakest notes (bottom).

N.B. Upper harmonics of a single harmonically-rich sound may produce a chord pattern. Sounds with harmonics that are louder than the fundamental frequency may not always be processed correctly.

For best results tune to A=440 Hz.
